January 11, 2014 Movie Presentation: The Eighth Air Force – Start Engines … Plus 50 Years!

This video is among the best offerings illustrating the part played by the United States Eighth Air Force and World War II’s air war over Europe. Vintage film footage and contemporary interviews with key veterans of the Eighth provide an insider’s glimpse into the war.

Survivors tell their true stories of aerial combat and the many dangers they faced. Dealing with enemy fighters and flak, depending upon oxygen to be able to breathe five miles above the earth, and facing temperatures up to 50o below zero in nothing but a fleece-lined suit are only some of the challenges they faced. One tenth of the casualties of the war served in the Mighty Eighth Air Force.

Romancing the Drones!

The Aviation Museum of New Hampshire will present an in-depth panel discussion on the general topic of drones, or UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles). Not only have military drones captured headlines in recent years, drones in operation domestically have become a hot topic as well. From furnishing law enforcement officials with a means of gathering information through surveillance, to the proposed use of UAVs to provide package delivery, the sky may soon become an even busier place. What impact will all these drones have on commercial and general aviation in the future?
