Son of downed U-2 spy plane pilot to speak in N.H. about his father's controversial Cold War legacy

On May 1, 1960, U.S Air Force Capt. Francis Gary Powers plummeted out of the sky and into a diplomatic crisis when he was shot down during an espionage mission over the Soviet Union. On Thursday, June 16, the Aviation Museum welcomes his son, Francis Gary Powers Jr., to a lecture and book-signing to be held at the Town Hall Theater in Wilton, N.H. Our annual 'Father's Day Weekend' Fly-In BBQ is Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nashua's Boire Field. On Nov. 30, 1954, a Northeast Airlines DC-3 on approach to Berlin, N.H. crashed near the summit of snowbound Mt. Success. Two died, and five survivors were forced to spend two nights in sub-zero conditions without food before the downed plane could be found, prompting their rescue.  READ MORE!
